If you are wondering what types of school uniforms do students from other countries wear, we’ll here’s what they wear:

United Kingdom – The modernized version of school uniform in England consists of a polo shirt, sweatshirt or t-shirt, and casual types of pants such as cargo or tracksuit pants. Dark and cool colors such as brown, blue, black, grey and maroon are dominant in uniforms of English students. Some male students still use blazers and tie to make them look smart and formal, and to avoid being bullied. The school badge is sewn on the blazer. For girls, they wear either pants or skirt, kilted or tailored, depending on the tradition of the school.

Singapore – Wearing uniform is compulsory for all public and private sectors of schools in Singapore. For boys, they wear either shorts or trousers. For girls, it’s pinafore or skirt with blouse and shorts underneath. Blazers and ties are only worn for special occasions since the country has a tropical climate. Hence, the school badge is sewn on the shirt or blouse for girls. Almost all schools necessitate wearing of white socks and white shoes. For boys in the primary level of education, they are required to wear shorts. They can only wear pants when they start secondary 3, or in some schools, secondary 4.

Philippines – In the Philippines, wearing of uniforms is common in all levels, but some schools allow students to wear civilian clothes. Male students usually wear polo shirt and slacks in brown, black, green, blue, or khaki, while the female ones are often seen wearing blouse, ribbon or necktie, and long, pleated skirt. For international schools, boys’ uniform includes blazer and tie.

Australia – Australia follows British tradition when it comes to uniforms. For boys, uniform consists of grey long trousers (or short trousers during summer) and button-down shirt. For the girls, it varies from culottes, jumpers, dresses, pants, shorts and blouses and/or polo shirts. In private schools, uniform comes with a blazer, hat and tie for both genders. A special kind of uniform is also used during physical education, which includes shorts, tennis skirts/netball skirts, and leggings.

It’s Monday and you just came to your first class. Your teacher / professor introduces today’s lesson. He discusses, and you listen. Then suddenly you remembered you went to your friend’s birthday party last night and as a consequence, you haven’t had enough sleep. Now your eyes are slowly being dragged down by instinct. Slowly, your professor’s voice is fading into nothingness. Alas! You are snoring away in the middle of the class. Then your professor scolds you and you are suddenly the butt of jokes to your classmates.

Sleep plays a major factor in growth and development of a Student. It also affects peoples’ behavior, temperament and learning ability. Studies show that sleep deprivation may cause IQ levels to temporarily decline. True enough, when one is drowsy, one tends to be weak in reasoning and memory. So if you have experienced problems like these, it’s time act now. Here are some suggestions to avoid sleeping at class:

Eat a healthy breakfast containing key nutrients like protein and energy-boosting carbohydrates. Examples are eggs and fruits.

If you feel like you need to take vitamin supplements, then do. But consult your doctor first to know what’s right for you.

Get at least eight hours of shut-eye. Avoid partying when you have a class the next day. Or at least leave early so that you have enough time to rest for tomorrow.

Avoid watching too much television, especially late night programs. Discipline yourself.

Drinking milk or reading a book before bedtime may help you to sleep early. Before you go to sleep, avoid drinks containing caffeine, such as coffee and tea.

Free yourself from emotional baggage especially before sleeping. Rest your mind even for a while. Thinking or worrying too much about your problems might make you restless.

Don’t rely on drinking coffee alone to keep you awake. Coffee may give you a quick energy boost, but its effects may also decline in just a few hours. The end result is you’ll feel sleepy again.

Make sure your bedroom is comfortable and relaxing. Check if your pillows and bedding are comfortable enough. Also, a quiet, cool and dark room is perfect for sleeping.

High school is the mediating phase between middle school, when school activities are less complicated, and college, where lessons are designed in preparation for one’s future career. And sometimes, a teenager may find it difficult to adjust in dealing with their subjects in high school. Not that they can’t since every human being is blessed with the gift of intelligence. Maybe they are still learning the ropes of high school life.

To improve the study skills of high school students, there are a lot of tutorial schools and review centers nowadays. It is convenient for parents who can afford these extra learning courses for their children. But what about those who can’t? Fortunately, there are still options. However, these will require a lot of patience from students and parents.

For students to make studying more manageable, first, they need to learn the basics. Now, how can high school students enhance their study skills? Here are some study tips:

A student must be physically, emotionally and mentally ready before studying. One should follow a proper diet and exercise. One should be free from emotional stress inducers like anxiety and depression. One should also take enough rest for his mind to function properly. At average, eight hours of sleep is required daily.

One of the factors that affect the productivity of a student (or any other person for that matter) is his/her working environment. Some students become more productive while studying alone in a quiet room. Others do so with the soothing effect of classical music in the background. People have different styles of studying, but noise rarely (or never) helps.

A student must choose his or her friends in school wisely. A student becomes more willing to study if he/she has friends who are in the same boat. One is making a good decision if he/she goes with someone who pushes him/her up his/her goals instead of another who pulls him/her down.

A student should learn the art of note-taking. A student may use abbreviations and shortcuts instead of using long words. In that way, note taking will be faster and less tiring.

A student may also learn to solve simple mental arithmetic problems. It is taught in some math classes and it helps a lot, especially if there’s no calculator available.

Parents must also be supportive of their child’s learning. They should motivate and not enforce their children to do well in school. And they should never take for granted every learning opportunity that their child can get, whether in or out of the school. If they have time, they should teach their own children.

With the help of the world wide web, many programs offering study abroad opportunities in France can easily be seen with just a click of a button away. For those who aim to be a foreign exchange student, most of these programs are offered during summer, but there are also some who offer programs for every season. One just has to read the details of the program. It will also be helpful if one would know the track record of the organization that handles the program if he/she wants to get the best learning opportunity he/she can avail.

What are the initial requirements of these programs? Usually, they will make you write an essay on why the organization should choose you as a beneficiary of their program. And if they think that you really fit the spot, then you might be lucky enough to be chosen. However, programs often get only few recipients, but there’s no harm in trying, right?

So, you want to study in France but you lack the know-how? Now here are some organizations that can help you achieve your goal.

Early on, high school students should maximize their learning experiences whether they are in or out of the school. It is important that they get to be aware of their surroundings. Also, students must learn about the past and present culture of different countries, including their own. And nothing beats experiencing things in actual situation. That’s the beauty of educational field trips. You just don’t see things in books or magazines (not that they aren’t any better). You get to see how things really are, how they work and all that stuff.

Now what are the places that are suggestive of a good educational field trip for high school students? Here are some:

Universities and Colleges – By taking high school students on campus tours, they get to experience the atmosphere of college life for a day. In the process, they might even have an idea of which colleges they want to attend to someday.

Field(s) of interest: sociology

Wildlife Preservation Parks - It is important for students to realize the beauty of nature and wildlife in their natural habitat. In this trip, students may also learn to take care of their environment.

Field(s) of interest: botany, zoology, ecology

Historical Museums – Students can revisit a slice of the past by looking at memorabilia and precious artifacts. By understanding important events in history, a high school student will learn to appreciate why things came about in present time.

Field(s) of interest: archaeology, history, general knowledge

Observatories – Students can learn a lot about astronomy by visiting observatories. They can broaden their knowledge about the outer space and they will surely enjoy and learn something from stargazing through specialized telescopes.

Field(s) of interest: astronomy

Visiting other countries – Through this exciting and educational trip, students will get to know traditions and cultures from foreign countries. It helps students to appreciate other cultures as well as to socialize with other people regardless of color and race.

High school students mostly find it difficult to balance time for school activities and for leisure. As we all know, high school students are often loaded with homework and projects from various subjects, and yet, they can’t seem to escape from peer pressure. A friend or classmate invites another to come to parties here and there. Sure enough, going to the birthday party of that jock or that pretty girl from your class sounds more fun than solving an Algebraic equation. However, high school students have to face the fact that they need to prepare for their future. So these students are looking for ways to have fun without compromising their priorities in life.

So the million-dollar question is, what are the tips for high school students to wisely manage their time? Here are some:

Use an organizer/planner to jot down all the school activities lined up for the whole semester. Use a highlighting pen or a red ballpen to mark the most important activities.

Go to the library or study hall to study or do your assignments. Students tend to work faster in a more quiet environment.

Studying during the day makes you more productive than during the night since one’s energy level is higher in the former. Who wants to study when one is already sleepy?

Have a study partner. Preferably, both of you are attending the same class. It’s like being a tutor to each other at no cost. However, choose your partner wisely and make sure that “study time” is “study time”.

If you are reviewing for exams, take a break once in a while. Just don’t indulge. Think of breaks as a way to help you think clearer and get ready for the next set of lessons.

Make a definite set of “attainable” goals and stick to it (e.g. I will devote at least an hour a day for advance reading of my books). This will help you in the long run.

Come to class on time so you can catch up with the lectures and you won’t have to scramble in understanding the first part of the lesson.

With these helpful tips, time management is possible for high school students as long as they know the value of education. It is important for these students to practice time management early on for they will be more able to face more schedule-demanding tasks during adulthood.

Middle School Students are generally looking forward in meeting new people and making new friends, but the problem is that older students bully them which results to more abscenses, lower grades etc. What we need to do is to make the environment more supportive on the student’s needs and continue to challenge them academically. The transitions needs that the students are able to get a glimpse of what it will be like in high school and their parents are also given the information as well (especially the curriculum). It also needs to have Social support in place to generally give support to students that have a hard time. The whole point is to make the transition smooth by preparing them thru self learning, responsibility and family involvement.

Middle School Students are in a tough transition from elementary to high school, teaching middle school students is not the easiest task at all and may not be for everyone. One of the biggest challenge is respect towards authority, they love to question and challenge authorities which makes it very difficult. Being a teacher for these students requires a lots of understanding, and you’d know how to handle problematic students vs. the obedient students. It’s recommended to have 15 students or less to give the best education for the students. But nothing beats being able to shape someone’s future, teaching middle school students will shape their lives forever and being able to contribute to that is just priceless.
